It would be smarter to drop this guy who will not win and support Bob Casey.

Bob Casey has already been endorsed by Gov. Ed Rendell, and the other potential candidates (Joe Hoeffel decided not to run and endorsed Casey... as did Barbara ? Haefer (sp?/ I think that was her name))

So I guess you could say that Casey is PA's dem party pick...

I've seen Pennachio speak in person... He's a good guy... but from what I can understand from his speal, is that he believes in having true debates on the issues and a true primary... (He is a political science professor after all). I think his heart is in the right place and is running for the right reasons, but I still have a lot of unanswered questions even after hearing him speak... I wish his answers were better on some of the issues, more thought out or polished.

I'm certainly someone who could be persuaded for Pennachio, IF the sell and the answers were good enough... because I, too, hate the idea that the primary is a foregone conclusion and everything is just a given.

But I'm one of the few... and most of the Dems I know, especially young dems, already feel that Casey is going to win the primary, so there is no sense in voting for anyone else....

The biggest difference is that Casey is a Catholic, pro-Life Democrat. Pennachio is pro-choice.

At this point, the biggest goal of the Democrats in PA seems to be to SIMPLY GET SANTORUM OUT OF OFFICE.

The reason Casey was "chosen," so to speak, to run for Santorum's spot, is to wipe the pro-choice/pro-life debate off of the table. The idea being, that there are a lot of Pro-Life Catholics/Democrats in Pennsylvania who tend to stray from the Dem ticket and vote for Santorum on the Pro-Life issue. If the Democrats can eliminate that issue from the Senate race by putting up a moderate, pro-life Dem, then Santorum loses about a 4 or 5% swing from the Democratic vote.... and can even pick up some of the moderate republicans.

The polls have been a pretty good indication, as Casey has been leading Santorum in the past months, with as much if not more than a 10 pt. lead.

I've not seen any poll numbers on Pennachio.
