GUN VIOLENCE.
The Commission to Address Gun Violence, convened in April by Gov. Ed Rendell to discuss violence in the city of Philadelphia specifically and across the state broadly, issued its report to the governor this week.

According to a release from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime & Delinquency, "the report calls for funding effective gun violence programs and a number of legislative solutions that would help keep guns out of the hands of children, creating tougher penalties for people who violate Pennsylvania's gun laws, giving prosecutors and law enforcement better tools to pursue illegal gun traffickers, and creating penalties for those who fail to report lost or stolen guns."

The gun violence commission said gun homicides and injuries are rising in Pennsylvania, and said firearm homicides have gone up about 11 percent statewide in the past five years.

Local members of the commission include U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan, Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr., Pittsburgh Deputy Police Chief William Mullen and state Rep. Dan Frankel, D-Squirrel Hill. The full report can be read at: http://www.pccd.state.pa.us/pccd/lib/pccd/...ined_report.pdf

It's a sign of the economic times. Glad to see the State doing something about it.
