A who's who of the state's political and business leaders is trying to raise as much as $10 million in private funds to make grants to Minnesota combat troops and their survivors.
The idea is to start a broad grass-roots and corporate campaign that will offer grants of $500 to $1,000 to every Minnesota military man and woman who has been in a combat zone since 9/11, with perhaps $10,000 going to each wounded person and $15,000 to survivors of those killed, depending on the amount raised.
