Dennis Kucinich gave a short talk at a Linn County Democratic picnic in Marian Iowa, Saturday evening, July 16th. Although I was hoping to hear more about the "Out of Iraq" bipartison coalition, Dennis did mention this effort briefly. He did say that the Iraq war has caused deep wounds in American politics and our relations with other countries. He called upon Democrats to engage their energy and creativity to heal these wounds. His talk was more focused on issues of social and economic justice. He mentioned a new need for the old "new deal" programs to provide work for unemployed and young people during the depression. His stump speech might seem to be an anachronism, but we may very well be facing economic distress comparable to the 30s in the near future.
On a happier note, he introduced his fiancee, Elizabeth She's British and active in several international organizations advocating for debt relief in 3rd world countries. She stands about head taller than Dennis. She's a striking redhead. I don't recall if he gave a date but I think he said they plan to get married in the fall.
