You all ever see this picture? It looks like it makes sense but...

Are you sure he's in Vietnam? Isn't he a little overdressed?
And I believe it is permissible to look into the barrel of an M 16, particularly since they had a rep for jamming when dirty.

He has what we call a gumby suit on, pretty much a rubber rain suit. I'm sure that he released that photo, which I dont doubt the authenticity, but even if that was in the USA, he still broke basic safety rules.
As if you want to look down the barrel of an M-16 hey more power to you but it is not a safe practice that I'd recommend. Plus he cant look down the barrel, he has a muzzle cap on to keep dirt/water/debris from getting inside the barrel.

Well, he was in Vietnam, but i don't know if he was when that photo was taken.
I doubt his intention was to look down the barrel... you can clearly see that he was fiddling with his strap.
The barrel of the M-16 may actually be pointed off to the left of his head but the angle of the pic makes it appear as if he is looking down the barrel.
I had posted a pic sometime ago of Sen. Kerry at a skeet shoot and the way the pic was taken, it looked like the person standing next to him was pointing his shotgun directly at Kerry's head.
