Public education of our children SHOULD NOT - NEVER-EVER-EVER - BE DEPENDENT ON CHARITY FROM THOSE WHO BENEFIT FROM TAX CUTS THAT ARE FUNDED BY CUTS IN CHILD HEALTH CARE, HOUSING and SCHOOL LUNCHES!
This is a MAJOR step to the American feudal society many sociologists see on the horizon.
I fully understand that some of these people think they are doing a good dead, and they may be doing so, but if this is aloud to blossom, only kids lucky enough to have their school "adopted" by some wealthy donors will get a decent education.
There aren't many people with Elizabeth Rohatyn's bucks in corners of Alabama or Mississippi, so kids there will have to make do with dwindling government funding, while kids on the upper west side of NYC will not be needing to go door to door selling candy to potential perverts.
Public education was considered a necessary ingredient in any successful recipe for democracy. Without it, the feudal lords have all the knowledge while the serfs remain ignorant, pliable and complacent.
Public education and campaign finance law should be the 2 main items of any Democrat running for any office, anywhere. Before abortion, the Iraq War, impeachment of the Capos in the Bush Crime family or any other progressive agenda items, these 2 need addressing. For with a more level playing field, and an educated electorate, other progressive goals will be easily met.
That's why the Republicans have declared war on extended education. Teaching our youth World History, Civics, Literature or even Geography will give their minds the base tools of critical thought.
There is nothing more frightening than an educated, thoughtful electorate to the demagoguing, jingoistic, racist, xenophobic and BS peddling politicians who have taken the reins of our governmental coach and begun racing it towards a destination that will make all of us frighteningly nostalgic for even the very worst days of the present.
