Dunno what I did to my Dell Laptop, but my "page down", "page up" keys don't do anything.
Same with "home" and "end"
And I can't use my space bar to page down either.
Win XP Pro.
Any ideas?

I am not a teckie but I have a Dell
Great computer that only Dell can service and no one else will touch at all making it useless
I still have no 26th letter of the alphabet here and sometimes my cursor goes nutty
Try turning it on and off and seeing if that helps
If not, maybe wundermaus can help out, he usually has an answer

Dunno. Check your keyboard's connection. Replug it in. If that doesn't work. Try rebooting. If that doesn't work use the "shotgun"; System Restore. Restore the system to a day or two ago. That works for me when I get in a jam. If that doesn't work swap your keyboard.

Hi jeffmoskin...
Could be something to do with the function key being enabled... check to see if is engaged. Please provide model number so I can investigate in more detail.
does not sound like a restore issue...

I just noticed a little LED on under a padlock icon with an arrow pointed down.
So I did function/scroll lock and it went out.
now the page up/dn works.

What is this thing? A Dell, HP, Compaq...? And why are you planning on replacing the motherboard and power supply? The Poersupply is supper easy to replace and usually costs under $50 for a good one... that wold be one of the first thinks I replaced if it was wierd ... intermittant stuff... of course I would stick just one stick of memeory in it to see if there memory issues... and them trade out that single stick for a different one if the problem persisted... you get the idea? yes?

Mystery solved.
Well, not exactly.
Mystery IDENTIFIED.
I only have the problem using Firefox.
With IE6, all the pg up, dn, home, end, spacebar functions work fine.
Looks like it's not a Dell or XP problem after all.
Thank's anyway, everybody.
Now to uninstall and reinstall FF.

yikes! 433 celeron... not much horsepower there... replacing the motherboard would be a good idea... 192mb ram? is this an xp? if so you are runnning with too little ram... should be at least 512mb.
You can get a really nice basic computer for around $600. By the time you piece it all together and configure it... it's cheaper to buy it canned and in the box.

Do a 3 finger salute (Control Alt Delete) and then click on the performance tab to check your peak ram usage in the lower left corner... my peak usage is 854MB what's yours?
BTW - you should check your virtual ram settings... for the amount of ram you have it sould be set to 384MB for both min and max. Let me know if you need help setting that up.

Vet,
Your system ( Gateway ESSENTIAL 433C) will only support a maximum of 256MB of Ram and it only supports 2 slots for RAM to be installed. Since you have a 128 + 64, you really can't add much more RAM - replacing the 64 with a 128 stick will only increase your ram another 64 MB... not worth it really. If you see a special sale for a 128MB ram stick, then pick it up ( 128MB 168pin PC100 SDRAM DIMM)
Here is a good source - (and for only $18)
