The 'Moderate Republican' Scam

By Harold Meyerson

'Moderate Republicans' are moderate enablers of an extremist party. If voters seek a Congress that will check and balance the executive branch, if they want a more moderate nation, they should vote for the Democrat.

'Twas mighty nice of Mr Meyerson, tryin' to make it so's we don't hafta think for ourselves, eh? Just the same methinks 'tis a straw man argument he's puttin' forth 'cause Senator Chafee's never been shy 'bout doin' and votin' as his his conscience dictates, and as often as not 'tain't what the party leadership wants.

He is a Republican, has frequently explained why this is and will remain the case and methinks maybe Mr Meyerson oughta examine that if he wants to write intelligently on the subject. 'Course that might not make for a piece with the same appeal as this one does, eh?

As far as extremist parties go, maybe Mr Meyerson oughta look at the alternative. Seems Senator Reid, the Senate Minority Leader, has had brick bats tossed at him by other Democrats for his moderate views. Methinks the House Minority Leader, Congresswoman Pelosi, is as extreme as they come.

Are Democrats any less extreme, albeit in a different way, than the GOP? I think not!
