Latest Poll Has Strickland Leading By 21
(09.21.06)

Columbus, Ohio – Ohio gubernatorial candidate Congressman Ted Strickland has a 21-point lead over Republican nominee Ken Blackwell in a new independent poll released today.

Strickland’s 56% to 35% lead in the new SurveyUSA poll is consistent with three other polls released this week that show Strickland with a commanding double-digit lead.

SurveyUSA 9/21
Strickland 56%
Blackwell 35%

Rasmussen Reports 9/20
Strickland 54%
Blackwell 35%

Ohio Poll 9/20
Strickland 50%
Blackwell 38%

Quinnipiac University Poll 9/19
Strickland 55%
Blackwell 34%

“Ohioans are clearly responding to Ted’s vision to Turnaround Ohio and are eager to bring new leadership to Columbus,” said Strickland for Governor spokesman Keith Dailey.
Tracking closely with this week’s other public polls, SurveyUSA revealed that Strickland is receiving support from 24% of Republicans. Strickland also leads 52% to 30% among independents.

I just received [Saturday 9/30, 11:30] an automated phone call from this organization – Common Sense Ohio.

It was obviously republican and for Ken Blackwell.

The fake polling questions led into an attack on Ted Strickland.

Look at their website to see the lies they are telling about Strickland.

The questions covered the “coin-gate” scandal in Ohio, ban against gay marriage, religion in politics and Ted’s supposed absentee record in congress.

This group has been running ads on TV attacking Strickland for like the last month and a half, and in that same time period, Strickland's lead has actually INCREASED. So you can see just how effective this group is.

I don't know why anyone would bother to listen to ANY of the ads attacking Democrats in Ohio anymore. They all say the same thing. "They're gonna raise yer taxes!!!" Over and over and over and over and over. Most people have already tuned them out because they say NOTHING new; just the same thing in different ways. Even people who are likely to listen are bored by them now.

Oh, and I wanted to point out one thing about those CommonSense ads on TV. When they try to attack Strickland for not being around for votes, don't listen to what the speaker is saying, but read the words on the screen instead. They say, "Strickland is in the bottom 1% for NOT voting," meaning, he almost NEVER misses a vote. Clever use of the double-negative to try to trick people.

I love the Republican adds. The typical wedge issues......and guess what?.........They are NOT working! clap.gif

Keep running them. Brilliant!

The reality is they have nothing to run on! Their record in this state is nothing short of abysmal!

Very few bumper stickers and even fewer yard signs. It must be very embarrassing to be a Republican these days smile.gif

Poll shows Strickland has 2-1 lead over Blackwell in governor’s race

Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Democrat Ted Strickland has a nearly 2-1 lead over Republican Ken Blackwell with three weeks left in the race for governor, a poll released this morning shows.

The Quinnipiac University poll found 59 percent of likely Ohio voters favored Strickland, a Methodist minister and six-term congressman, while 32 percent backed Blackwell, Ohio's conservative secretary of state and a favorite of the religious right.

The poll reveals broad and deep support for Strickland, said Peter Brown, assistant director at the Quinnipiac polling institute in Hamden, Conn. Stickland drew the support of 90 percent of Democrats surveyed, 63 percent of independents and 22 percent of Republicans.

The telephone survey of 901 likely voters was conducted Oct. 10-15 and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Ohio, which narrowly gave President Bush the votes he needed for re-election, hasn't had a Democratic governor since 1991, but some of its leading Republicans have struggled with scandal.

U.S. Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, pleaded guilty Friday in an influence-peddling in a case involving lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Gov. Bob Taft pleaded no contest last year to ethics charges for failing to report golf outings and other trips. A GOP fundraiser and politically connected coin dealer, Tom Noe, is now on trial, accused of stealing more than $2 million from a state investment in rare coins; his attorneys say the deal with the state allowed him to use the money.

Wednesday's poll found 80 percent of Ohio voters surveyed disapprove of the job Taft is doing as governor. Taft cannot seek re-election because of term limits.

A September Quinnipiac poll also showed Strickland with a double-digit lead.

Mr. Blackwell just got unendorsed! clap.gif

The Findlay Courier is a reliably Republican newspaper. Although they have honest political and ideological differences with Ted, they have shown today that they are conservative because of principle, not just political convenience.

The Courier took the highly unusual step of unendorsing Ken Blackwell today – saying that a conservative Republican candidate had crossed the lines of decency to the point where they could not in good conscience tell others to vote for him. More from the Courier:

We’ve been following Ken Blackwell’s career for years. Our file on him is more than an inch thick. We’ve talked with him personally and come away impressed with his intelligence and commitment to change—both of which are much needed in this state. But while Blackwell may still get some of our individual votes, he’s lost our endorsement, for whatever it’s worth. His total nastiness at the Monday debate with his opponent, Democrat Ted Strickland, has proven that he’s really not the kind of man we need as our next governor. Personal attacks of dubious accuracy should have no place in a political campaign. As Strickland said, “Mr. Blackwell, you should be ashamed of yourself.”
