My friend Theresa has run an email list to her friends while her husband was deployed. I got this email from her today.
---------------------------------------
Hello everyone,
With my husband Shaun now safe at home for several months now, he and I often talk and think about those that are still serving our country in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places throughout the world.
When the guys from the 3rd Infantry Division started coming home I personally saw how some soldiers would come home admist their comrades and not have a single person waiting on them at the parade field: nobody to talk to about their year or with whom to share the fears, joys, and hopes Iraq left in their minds. I thought there had to be something to do for these soldiers - the ones that have no family or friends to write to them from Home.
It turns out one other Army mother agreed with me. She started http://www.soldiersangels.com to adopt a soldier. It is a real commitment, but I figure if everyone on this list adopts a soldier and then forwards it to five other people who adopt a soldier, and so on, perhaps no man or woman serving this country will ever feel as if their time spent away from Home has been in vain.
On their website their mission is plainly stated: "Soldiers' Angels are dedicated to ensuring that our military know they are loved and supported during and after their deployment into harms way."
We sometimes get involved with the business of every day life and unless we are personally affected by the pain of a deployed family member tend to ignore the fact that there are still people over there. I'm guilty of that myself. I'm sending this e-mail in the hope that even if you cannot participate, you will at least send this e-mail to someone who will.
Thank you all for your support. May no soldier go unloved.
