Iran makes French proposal in nuclear row
Agencies

Tehran: Iran on Tuesday proposed that France create a group to enrich Iran’s uranium in a bid to fulfil UN demands for an external monitor of Tehran’s nuclear program.

"We propose that France create a consortium for the production in Iran of enriched uranium," Mohammad Saeedi of Iran's Atomic Energy Agency told France-Info radio.

"That way France, through the companies Eurodif and Areva, could control in a tangible way our enrichment activities," he said.

Saeedi gave no other details of his proposal. Eurodif and state-controlled Areva could not immediately be reached for comment.

Iran ignored a UN Security Council deadline in August to stop uranium enrichment, with France leading the push to stop the Islamic country’s nuclear work.

Russia had sought to defuse the dispute with Iran by offering to conduct Iran's enrichment on Russian soil, but Tehran has refused.

The Russian proposal is actually the best solution.

Does Iran also think it is the best solution? I think not.

No, but they would find it acceptable if they can't get their own way (they actually want BOTH nuclear power and the bomb), there's trust between them and Russia. The French proposal is lobsided because they don't have as much to lose if they don't enforce the limits.
