Two border patrol agents, one being an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve and a former nominee for Border Patrol Agent of the Year, are being sent to prison for 11 and 12 years for shooting an illegal who was also attempting to smuggle 800 pounds of marijuana into our country. Their charges include: causing serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence and a civil rights violation. Not only did our government grant full immunity to the drug smuggling illegal, but they also treated him for his wounds in an El Paso hospital, taxpayer funded. What makes this even more rediculous, the same drug smuggler is sueing our government for five million dollars, even though he was actually caught at a later date trying to smuggle even more drugs into America!

Watch it on Lou Dobbs. Gotta love his show... i can't think of anyone who takes a harder stance on immigration than he does.

Over 50 Congressman have written letters to the President and the Attorney General, asking for a pardon for both of the border patrol agents, but haven't had any luck. Join the other 241,969 people who think this is absolutely rediculous, and sign this petition to President Bush.

To: President George W. Bush,

As a citizen of the United States I am outraged to learn that two U.S. Border Agents have been convicted of lengthy prison terms for doing their jobs-- pursuing illegal aliens who cross our border, and I’m calling on you to officially pardon them for their actions.

I am even more outraged to learn that this illegal alien (who was attempting to smuggle about 800 pounds of marijuana into our country), was tracked down by a Department of Homeland Security Investigator and granted immunity for his testimony against these two agents!

This is a terrible injustice, and I urge you to use your considerable authority and power to pardon these two agents and right this obvious wrong!

The right wing sites are going ballistic over this. They can't seem to come to grips with the concept that law enforcement is not above the law. Well they are. Have we become so enamored of ceding our liberties to authoritarian forces we are willing to act as cheerleaders for heavy handed police state tactics? Are we begging to be locked down or what?

A defining issue in current political existance.

If anyone wants my vote for national office they had better
be on the petition to free these guys. I consider them brothers.
They are in prison. No one deserves more immediate attention.

Two former Border Patrol agents start their prison sentences Wednesday.

The men were convicted last year in the shooting of a Mexican drug runner. Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean were escorted from the federal courthouse in shackles by U.S. Marshals and then taken away.

Ramos said, “We're innocent men.”

Ramos said, "I love you too."

There are words of comfort, tears and hugs

Ramos said, “Physical pain is nothing compared to what I am feeling right now. It's gut wrenching to say the least”

Followed by a short walk to the front steps of the courthouse. A walk Jose Compean makes minutes later.

The edge of freedom for two men who say they were only doing their job the day of the shooting.

Ramos said, "There's a lot of people criticizing us. They don't know half of what goes on out there. If they think they know what our job entails or what the think happened, they should go out and do the job instead of criticizing, Monday morning quarterbacking us.”

There is support too, from as far as California and Arizona protestors who say now their efforts will multiply.

Danny Smith, American Freedom Riders, said, “I think you can see an outpouring of discontent and displeasure with the way the Border Patrol and Justice Department have handled this.”

There is little hope of a presidential pardon. The last recourse: an appeal.

Ramos said, “I have great faith in my attorneys but even greater faith in God and with that I think prevail because the truth will come out.”

Ramos' sentence is 11 years. Compean's sentence is 12 years.

Y'all talk politics, but this is the final Bush betrayal, I'm trying
to find a forum for police outrage, protest, storming the Bastille.

Indeed, the world seems to be turned upside down, doesn't it?

This has hit your regular citizen really hard in the border states, as it well should.

That Gonzalez and his bosses are too damn busy to step into this, is really heart-breaking. They have had politicans from the far left to the far right fighting anyway they could to find a FAIR solution to this.

After this fiasco, I'd think twice about working for Border Police.

You find the forum, I'm there.

This sends a real bad message to our boys on the border. What really pisses me off is that our government went to Mexico to track this dirt bag down, just to get him to testify against these two.

Yeah, no kidding.

Hey, you drug smuggler, we caught you, in the act, red handed, transporting illegal drugs and trying to get into our country, ILLEGALLY, but we're going to grant you full mmunity so we can get you to testify against two of our legal citizens, who were just doing their jobs. Yeah, you shot at them, but that doesn't justify them shooting back at you! Hey, do you want something to drink? Maybe something to eat? How about the keys and title to my car? Hell, i might as well give you my life savings!

The only mistake these boys made was not finishing the job, IMO.

I've signed the petition included as well as others I've found through Lou Dobbs. I truly can't believe this is happening in America. It gets harder and harder to teach about this country when you see the reality in the news every day. I still believe in the people and know we are being used. Those Democrats running the Congress now had best get on the dime and do what we sent them to do. End this damn war and get this government straightened out. A good start would be to free those two innocent Border Patrol agents.
