RE: THE PROPOSED IRAQ TROOP SURGE
Dear Mr. Noonan,
Thank you for allowing me to listen to your concerns regarding our ongoing involvement in the civil war in Iraq.
Make no mistake. We must do whatever it takes to defend America and keep hostilities off our shores. In listening to people across our 8th District and to military generals, it is clear that our invasion of Iraq was not necessary and was based upon poor judgment. Most importantly, our ongoing presence in Iraq prevents us from solving each and every other problem we face here at home.
Plainly stated, our brave troops volunteered and served with honor, courage and incredible skill - but our troops do not belong in Iraq.
Like all Americans, I strongly support our troops - but I do not support President Bush's failed policies. The civil war between the Sunni and Shiite peoples cannot be won militarily. Diplomacy, not militarism, is the real way forward.
It is time for a positive change and a new direction in Iraq, not more of the same.
Thank you again for allowing me to listen to your ideas and concerns. Please continue to share your thoughts with me.
Sincerely,
Steve Kagen, MD
