The Future Combat Systems (FCS) program is central to the U.S. Army’s vision of its “transformation” in response to perceived challenges in the post-Cold War world. Since beginning in 2000, the program has encountered large cost increases, schedule delays and difficulties in developing the systems’ new and complex technologies. Some have challenged the fundamental concept of the FCS as an example of the failed, so-called “Revolution in Military Affairs.” CDI Research Associate Ana Marte and Research Assistant Elise Szabo provide an overview of the FCS program and links to many additional sources.
