Why is it okay to go after Huckabee, but then say Mormonism is off the discussion list? Why are Republicans and conservatives so disrespectful and hostile to different faiths?

The whole brouhaha is a GOP primary battle. The intolerance of conservative Christians is deafening, despicable and unAmerican
Pegatha

I'm not really sure what you're saying, D. I've heard plenty of folks go after Mittens, but more for his waffling than his faith.

See? You really need to pay more attention using your critical thinking skills than your friendships. You can be a smaht cookie.

The media. They give a pass on in depth discussions of Romney's faith. Nobody wants to be seen as being bigoted...so Mormonism is off the table. But as I heard somebody raise the question ...one I've wondered about...why is Huckabee's faith an open topic? I know he declared a few crazy ideas and is a preacher, but Romney is the equivalent of a Cardinal in his church

I read that there's about the same number of Mormons in the US as citizens with a Jewish
herritage who have various religous or non-religous Life-styles. Politically, culturally
and ideologically (with a few odd exceptions) and the fact that Mormons are generally higher
socio-economic level, Mormons and Baptists are able to colaborate to maintain a power house
to keep the political balance in the US tilted to their favor...

You've got to come back more often, Dante. I've put certain people on ignore, so I don't have much to read any more.

In order to retain my sanity.

When will it be possible? (nosy Nan!)

You haven't seen Laurence O'Connell on Maclaughlan group two weeks ago

He blasted Mormons and Romney for about 5 minutes

I never saw anything like it on tv before.

He called them all sort of names.

O'Donnell... from Boston

he went after John Lying Fook O'NEill calling him a liar. Pat Buchanan went off over it. MSNBC scolded him. I will never forgive our pals at MSNBC... they caved in like progressives when a vote doesn't go their way.

I think that most people are not aware that there is a large network of wealthy, culturally
mainstream, scripturally fundamentalist, dominionist Christians that don't mix, socially
with the Southern Baptists and their allies. This segment of the radical right wing republicans
is led by the Church of Later Day Saints and their allies. The Romney Family has a long
history of Leadership in this church and Gov. Romney presently occupies a major Leadership role
Whether he wins the Presidency or not, he will achieved a major goal of mainstreaming the
Mormon Church in the US Social System so that it is more potent in its World Outreach. The
point that Democrats need to attend to is that now we have not just an under-class radical
right but also an upper class radical right that votes similarilly. Be prepared to face a Romney/Huck.
ticket or a Huck/Romney, depending upon which one of them is ahead in the polls.

Do you have a shred of evidence for these remarkable propositions about Dominionists and the Mormons? Please don't respond by saying, "google...", unless you simply want to admit that you don't.

And Huckabee seem to be pretty far apart in terms of the dynamics of political factionalism within the Republican Party. And I don't think that Huckabee has exactly smoothed things over with a remark or two that he has made about Mormonism.
